Bonanza was the very first western telecast in colour told the tale of the Cartwrights an imaginary family of ranchers who lived in the mid-1800s, in the vicinity of Virginia City Nevada an actual mining boomtown. The character of the show was Cartwright's youngest son, whose mom Marie (in the first episode, and later Felicia) had been widowed and whose daughter died from fever.
