Many think that Khan was a Chaka as she became a member of the Panthers however, she claims that the Yoruba Baba gave her the name Chaka Adunne Aduffe Karifi around 13 years old. She left in 1969 the Panthers and quit high school having been to Calumet High School and Kenwood High School (now Kenwood Academy). Within the Chicago region, she began playing in small bands. The first group she performed with was Cash McCall's Lyfe with Hassan Khan. Chaka and Hassan married in 1970.
